As a build-up to the Summit of the Future, the Youth SDG Action Day brought together young leaders and students to accelerate progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This dynamic event focused on empowering youth to take concrete actions in their communities, amplifying their voices, and ensuring that their innovative solutions are at the forefront of global development efforts. It highlighted the essence of partnership between higher education institutions, student and the United Nations.

The Youth SDG Action Day aimed to empower young leaders and students from UCT to take concrete actions towards achieving the SDGs and amplify their voices and solutions for addressing global challenges, such as climate change, poverty, gender equality, and education. The essence of the day was to engage the youth in discussions shaping the future, and in ensuring their active participation in the global agenda.

A thought- provoking panel discussion emphasised the importance of cross- sectional collaboration and partnership between young entrepreneurs, universities, civil society organisations and the private sector to enforce sustainability as practical solutions for the future. The Youth SDG Action Day emphasized collaboration across sectors to support youth-led initiatives. These partnerships would ensure that young leaders have the resources and networks they need to bring their SDG solutions to life.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr. Nelson Muffuh noted the following:

"As the world looks ahead to the Summit of the Future, it is more important than ever to recognize the critical role that youth play in shaping the global development agenda. The Youth SDG Action Day not only celebrates youth leadership but also challenges young people to take bold actions for a better, more sustainable future."

By fostering youth innovation, leadership, and advocacy, the event served as a powerful reminder that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the leaders of today!
